Supported housing opens in Nottingham

A new supported housing service has opened in Nottingham to honour local social housing pioneer Andrew Malone. As architects for the project, team Pelham joined Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) at the launch of the ‘Malone Terrace,’ which is part of a larger development on Farnborough Road in Clifton, being constructed by Geda Construction.

Malone Terrace is specifically designed to provide 14 self-contained flats for individuals needing mental health support who are also at risk of homelessness. This facility will offer short-term accommodation along with additional support. Specialist support workers will assist residents in developing essential life skills, helping them transition to more permanent, independent living situations.

Andrew Malone, who passed away in 2023, founded NCHA in response to the homelessness crisis of the 1970s. His family and members of the Nottingham City Council attended the opening ceremony, where a memorial plaque was unveiled. Diana Malone, Andrew’s widow, expressed her joy at seeing the new facility, stating that it was “brilliant” and that her husband would have been pleased and amazed.

Located on the newly developed Fairham Brook Drive, this two-story building provides fully furnished flats, a social space, and a communal garden at its centre, creating a safe area for residents to gather and interact.

The homes, situated on a gas-free site, have achieved an energy rating of ‘B.’ They utilise air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, while solar power supplies electricity. The design features green living roofs, vehicle charging points, and thick insulation, ensuring comfort and minimising environmental impact.

We’re excited to partner with NCHA on this important project to meet the significant demand for supported housing. We look forward to welcoming new residents and seeing them thrive with the support from the NCHA team.
