Energy saving homes for Bilborough
Mike and Bill joined NCHA to celebrate the official opening of College Way in Bilborough.
Fifty new affordable homes, designed, developed and contract managed by Pelham have been officially opened near Bilborough College in Nottingham. The site, named College Way, is entirely gas-free and both owned and managed by NCHA.
Energy saving measures were NCHA's foremost concern. So our priority was to deliver a gas-free, EPC A rated, low carbon development, with solar panels, air-source heat pumps and high-end insulation. These homes will deliver both a low carbon footprint and help reduce energy costs for the new residents.
We also acted as Employer’s Agent and Clerk of Work to ensure the build was delivered on-time and to the desired specification. There's a mix of two and three bedroom houses and bungalows, 24 homes have been sold for shared ownership and the rest let at an affordable rent.
Mike Price, Head Architect, commented: “It was fantastic to visit the new development and meet the new occupants. It was great to hear how they are enjoying all the energy features and the new community forming.
“I would also like to thank Mercer Building Solutions for their work in helping us to bring our vision to reality.”
Nearly all the new homes are already occupied and a new community is beginning to take shape.
Cllr Jay Hayes, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “It’s great to see more affordable homes being let to people in Nottingham who are in housing need – and these are especially important as their lower carbon footprint contributes towards the city’s carbon neutral ambitions, as well as reducing energy bills for residents.”
The development, costing around £8.7m, was funded by NCHA and Homes England. The homes contribute towards NCHA’s Strategic Partnership with Homes England to deliver new, affordable homes across the East Midlands and East of England.
Fraser Mercer, Director, Mercer Building Solutions said: “We are proud to have strengthened our partnership with NCHA and Pelham during this fast-paced programme. This scheme was delivered successfully and on time, greatly assisted by NCHA and Pelham’s collaborative approach.”
